Personal Training

Who uses a Personal Trainer?

The role of the Personal Trainer is changing. It used to be that celebrities and wealthy individuals were the only people that hired Personal Trainers. The stereotype of a Personal Trainer used to be that of a big, thick-headed body builder, whose goal is to improve their client aesthetically.

Today the Personal Trainer is a highly skilled professional who has been educated and certified to work with various types of clients, with various different goals. People ranging in age from 7 through to 80, obese adults, athletes, cancer recovery patients, and adults with diseases all benefit from working with Personal Trainers.

Clients are using Personal Trainers for: fat loss, muscle gain, flexibility, improved posture, alleviating stress, increasing energy, rehab for injuries, improving power or speed, and other general health benefits.

What exactly does a Personal Trainer do?

At Alive! our Personal Trainers are highly skilled and nationally certified, and have many roles when working with clients. Your Personal Trainer will serve as a coach, teacher and motivator. It is the Personal Trainer's job to assess your current physical and mental state, establish very specific goals, design an individualised program, and do what ever it takes to keep you on track towards getting results.

Once I begin working with a Personal Trainer, what will happen during the sessions?

The Personal Training Manager will contact you and ask you some questions about your specific goals and conditions. After the Personal Training Manager matches you up with a Personal Trainer, you will set up an appointment for a complete consultation.

During the consultation, which lasts approximately 1 hour, your Personal Trainer will gather as much information on your medical and exercise history as possible in order to create the best program for you.

Next your Trainer will establish realistic goals and discuss the strategies that will be used to accomplish them. Body fat testing, body girth measurements, flexibility, cardio, and strength testing may all be done during the consultation process.

The next time you meet with your Trainer, you will start weight resistance and cardiovascular training. Your trainer will demonstrate proper form and technique and explain to you the fundamentals behind the specific training that you are focusing on.

Although high intensity training is the ultimate goal, you can expect to take it easy for the first couple of sessions to allow your body to adjust to the new style of training.

How much will it cost me?

There are several different Personal Training programs to choose from at Alive! The cost is determined by the following:

• How often you choose to use a Personal Trainer

• How long you decide to use them (2 wks, 6 mths, 5 years)

• Whether or not you choose to work one on one with a Personal Trainer or get involved with a small group of clients who work with a Personal Trainer together for the duration of the sessions.
